Such meaningful, insightful questions, Matthew. I especially connected with Amy's responses about claiming a home for oneself and listening to the sadder moments in ones life, those hanging into the edges that prevent moving forward. Thanks for sharing this interview! Ordering the book now.

Thanks, Dixie! The sadder moments are definitely what have made me a writer and have many times helped me find my place in the world. For many reasons, I believe you will get a lot from MERCURY. Enjoy!

There are several quotes in this interview that could be made into posters. Such inspiring words. Amy Jo seems born to have written this novel. Her deep, sincere responses were fantastic. I'll need to pick up that book!

Thanks, Kent! MERCURY is beautiful read. Perfect for librarian book clubs. Do you know any librarians who run book clubs? LOL. So glad you took something good away from this one.

I wanted more about when you were a roofer during your summers in college. Maybe you could do a whole essay on that subject for us TWBM fans!

When I was a very young man—right out of college—I wrote an extremely idealistic play about my roofing experience. I showed it to my former theater professor and she said it was longer than any Shakespeare play. Maybe even two combined. LOL. I've tried many times to write about my roofing days. That's one of the reasons why I loved Amy Jo's book. She describes so well what I experienced those five summers. The roofing, yes, but also hard-earned blue-collar pride and the sense of belonging that putting in work day-after-day with other men can sometimes afford.

Reading this meaningful and insightful interview between two of my favourite authors at the end of a long day of work filled me with warmth on this cold winter night. I read this as an advanced readers copy many months ago, and this interview reminded me of all the parts I loved best about this novel. Thank you for taking the time to share this with the world.

Really enjoyed this interview. Sounds great. My favourite, late uncle was a roofer so I will be seeking out this book. Sounds wonderful. On that note - I am currently reading We Are The Light - a little later than I’d planned to - and am loving it. I’m really enjoying all the Jungian stuff. Just great, and beautifully written. Thank you.

Thanks so much, Sharon. So glad you are getting something good from WATL. MERCURY is wonderful. This former roofer found it very moving (and authentic). Hope you will too.
